A SURVEY OF PHYTOPLANKTON COMPOSOTION AND ASSESSMENT OF SOME PHYSIO-CHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF RIVER GASHUA, YOBE STATE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT:

 

This study evaluated some physico-chemical parameters and Surveyed phytoplankton composition of river Gashua in Yobe state, Nigeria. The variation and composition of physico-chemical and biological parameters of river Gashua were studied during rainy season. Result showed variation within that period of the study. The pH values of different location ranging from 6.2-7.1, temperature ranges from 210C-280C,  dissolved oxygen ranges from 18.9mg/l-29.0mg/l, 94mg/l-199mg/l, turbidity  ranges from 5.5mg/l-6.2mg/l, nitrogen nitrite ranges from 10.90mg/l and hardness ranges from 68ppm-108ppm. Four phytoplankton phyla were recorded; they were dominated by mycrosystissp then cyanobacteria sp followed by oscilatoriasp and euglena and green algae.
